What are flower remedies?

Flower remedies, also called flower essences, are infusions made from the flowering part of wild plants, bushes or trees, which can help us to balance our emotional state. This method of treatment was discovered in the 1930′s by Dr. Edward Bach, a renowned British physician and bacteriologist. Not to be confused with aromatherapy or essential oils, flower remedies are scentless and are taken internally in the form of liquid drops under the tongue.

How do flower remedies work?

Flower remedies are considered “vibrational” medicine, similar to acupuncture and homeopathy, and work on the subtle, bioenergetic field. Rather than suppressing negative emotions or symptoms (as we are accustomed to in conventional medicine), the remedies work by stimulating in us the positive feelings we need to overcome a negative emotional state.

How should I pick a formula that is right for me? I only have some of the symptoms listed.

Pick the one that most relates to your feelings and emotional state overall, at the moment. If some of the symptoms listed do not pertain to you, the formula will still be effective in treating the symptoms you do have. An inappropriate remedy will not hurt or cause adverse reaction.

Can I take more than one formula at a time?

I don’t recommend taking more than one formula at time, as it lessens the effectiveness (First Aid Kit is the exception and can be taken as needed for stress). The reason for this is that flower remedies are like information. One flower essence for a specific emotion is like a little message, an alert sent to your spirit to start the healing process. My flower formulas may have up to seven essences in one bottle. One essence is like a musical note being played... you can hear it clearly. Seven essences is like seven notes, creating a beautiful chord, bringing harmony to your mind and body. If you add another seven essences, the message becomes confused and muddled... the effect is diluted. We can only heal so many issues at once. So really tune in to what you feel right now, in the last few months. Choose based on that.

How long does the remedy take to work?

The remedies can work immediately in certain situations, but for long-term issues it will take three weeks to one month to see changes. The effects of flower remedies are cumulative. Remedies must be taken as directed to feel the benefits.

How do I take flower remedies? What is the dosage?

The standard dose is four drops, four times a day, under the tongue. Regular use of the flower remedies builds the strength of their action. Therefore, potency is increased, not by taking more drops at one time, but by using them on a frequent, consistent basis. The remedies should be taken four times daily, although this may need to be increased in acute situations to once every hour, or even more often. (First Aid Kit may be used every ten minutes).

If taken at the directed dosage above, one bottle will last for one month.

How long does one bottle last if taken every day?

Can children or people sensitive to alcohol use the formulas from the Regular line?

Yes. The amount of alcohol you will be ingesting is minimal (four drops of  brandy diluted with spring water), but if you cannot have any alcohol at all, you may dilute the remedy by adding four drops from the dropper bottle into a glass of spring water. Each sip counts as a dose. Or, 16 drops can be added to a daily water bottle and sipped throughout the day. Adults can also use the Children’s Formulas.

Do you offer alcohol free versions? Are they less effective than the brandy version?

We offer alcohol free versions of all of our formulas. Please select “alcohol free” on the product page. The alcohol free, glycerine based remedies are no less effective than the brandy versions.

Are flower remedies safe to use during pregnancy and nursing?

Yes, flower remedies are totally safe to use during pregnancy. They are very gentle and give wonderful support to keep mama and baby happy and calm. If the alcohol content may be of concern, please note that the dosage is minimal (four drops) and many of my pregnant clients use the alcohol based remedies. If you are worried about the alcohol, just select the alcohol free version.

What about allergies to pollens/trees?

Flower remedies are safe for allergy sufferers. Because they are so dilute, they are considered vibrational medicine, containing no measurable amount of the original plant material.

Are flower remedies addictive? Do they have side effects?

Flower remedies are safe, non-addictive and have no side effects. Their gentleness makes them suitable for children and pets. (Drops can be added to a baby’s bottle or put in a pet’s water dish).

Will flower remedies interfere with my medication, or will my medication interfere with the effects of the remedies?

Flower remedies do not interfere with medications and are compatible with other healing modalities. Medication will not interfere with their action. Flower remedies are not meant to replace medications, so please consult your physician if you have any questions regarding this matter.

What can I expect when I take flower remedies?

Many people report an initial increase in awareness of their previous pattern of imbalance, followed by a lessening of stress, more confidence, harmony in relationships, inner peace and happiness. Things improve over time and eventually the remedies are no longer needed. There is no backsliding or loss of benefits once progress has been made. In the first three days or so of treatment, it is common to need more sleep or to release old emotions. This is subtle and not experienced by everyone. It’s a part of the healing process and will pass after a few days.

How should I care for my bottles?

Please be sure when taking your drops to avoid touching the glass dropper to your mouth, as it should be kept clean. If this should occur, just rinse it off with clean, hot water.

Bottles not being used should be stored upright, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, cell phones and computers. The bottle you are using regularly will be fine if not stored upright.
